Alec Wright solves sticky international strategic problems in tax, investments or intellectual property for firms, owner-managers, or high net worth persons, acting as the Planner, Arbitrator/Mediator, or Fraud Examiner. He is usually retained as Consultant, Director or project Chief Financial Officer. On launch, merger or turn-around, he has often gone in as acting President or Trustee for software, ecommerce and high tech firms, even a feature film.
Alexander J. Wright, CD, BA, MBA, CFE, CFP, R.F.P., CAPT (Ret’d), taught and practised accounting as a graduate Accounting and Logistics Officer in the Canadian Navy while underwriting life insurance with Maritime Life’s Armed Services Division. He joined Planned Investments Corp. and sold mutual funds. He returned to school and graduated MBA at University of Western Ontario’s Ivey Graduate School of Business. He then pioneered financial planning in Canada by founding the fee-only consultancy, Wright & Co in 1972. He developed the country’s first degree credit course in Personal Financial Planning in 1981 while an Accounting and Finance Professor at Ryerson University. His career through Royal Trust and Wm. M. Mercer, actuaries and benefits consultants, took him to the top strategic planning firm, Hickling-Johnson Ltd. as Principal. Then he was COO of an Investment Counsel firm, CEO of 2 consultancies and 2 securities firms in Canada and The Bahamas, and was CFO of a bank in the Far East: always the specialist in International Private Banking for high net worth clients. All the while he innovated concepts and systems for solving complex international strategic problems for firms and their owners, specializing in taxation, investments and intellectual property. He's been faculty also at Seneca and Centennial Colleges, lectured at many others, and spoken extensively at major conferences across Canada, the U.S.A. and the Caribbean on tax, planning and fraud matters. His current text on Compliance and Corporate Governance in Financial Services, 'Demons in the Financial World and How to Spot Them', is available by the publisher, Trafford.com, Amazon and college bookstores. Beyond his expertise in corporate and personal Financial Planning, he is a qualified Forensic Accountant, certified in Arbitration and Fraud Examination, serves on the boards of IAFP, ACFE, Sir Frederick Banting Legacy Foundation, Air Cadets and others. Alec continues to innovate in financial planning and his pithy articles appear periodically in the national and local press.
