Talk Pages
From Planipedia
Talk pages are very similar in style and content to Discussion Pages, but differ in that Talk pages are attached to User pages, (rather than main article pages), and are used to send messages to the associated User. You can review the Help on Discussion Pages for a review of the basic functions, but here we will mainly review the purpose and etiquette for talk pages.
Appropriate Content
The main use of user:talk pages is to leave messages, directed to the user but also appropriate content for anyone to read, generally related to Planipedia. Talk pages can be used to discuss the user's activities, as well as content of the user's page, or can cover other informal subject matter. Information related to Planipedia's main content should be brought up on the associated discussion tab for all to read, not a talk page.
Talk pages, when formatted correctly, will read like a conversation between users. As such, users should not instigate conflicts or make disrespectful comments on a Talk Page. Talk Pages are moderated like all other pages, and any inappropriate behaviour will result in being blocked or other cautionary measures.
Signatures
At the end of your talk text, you should leave your "signature". Pressing the signature button on the edit toolbar will produce --~~~~, which upon saving changes into your user name and time stamp. --Kbrayman 16:59, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
This allows the user for whom you are leaving the message to easily discern who left them the message and a what time, rather than viewing the history page. It also allows the user to quickly connect to your user page to reply to the message.
Editing
It is inappropriate to edit someone else's user page. If you have questions or concerns regarding any of the content you should place your comments on the User:Talk page. That being said, when you edit the User:Talk page, you should only being adding your comments, not deleting or changing the comments of others. Something small such as a typo will not detract from the meaning of other users' statements, but larger edits have the potential to skew the comments left by others and should be avoided.
