The integration with Dataphile will help simplify your life by being able to do an automated import of your clients, accounts, product data and much more. This integration feature will be a huge time saver for you in creating client financial planning reports.

First off lets explain what exactly comes into the PlanPlus Planit from Dataphile. When you bring in a client for the first time from Dataphile, you capture all of their personal information, information about their accounts and all the holdings inside those accounts. Before you even start the import process, you have to be sure you know what your client’s household number is in Dataphile.

To help ensure successful client data integration, we have documented a 3 step process. Be sure to have this document handy when you do this the first time so you can follow the steps one by one.

The full integration process actually occurs in three steps:

  1. Run a Query
  2. Run an Extract
  3. Upload your Extracted Data

Step 1- Run a Query

In order to import client data into Planit, you must first perform some steps using your Dataphile software.

  • Run a Query > Navigate to the ProPhile Openview screen > Query Data tab.

  • Go to File > Open > Firm Queries

  • This will open the following dialogue box. Double click on Firm Queries to expand the list and scroll down alphabetical list to PlanPlus Export.

  • Once you have selected the PlanPlus Export hit OK.
  • The screen will now show that the PlanPlus query is open.

  • To run the query you must know the household number for the clients/accounts you are uploading. To determine household number go to Account inquiry, bring up the client/account you wish to upload and then click on the household level button as circled in red below – in this instance 36773 is the household number.

  • Now click on ProPhile Openview icon.

  • Run query by clicking on the refresh arrows on the toolbar or by selecting Run Query from the Actions menu.

You will be prompted for your household number – enter the number and click OK (or enter key).

Step 2- Run an Extract

  • Once your data has been returned you will need to save it as a file to upload into PlanPlus. From the Tools menus select Export. This will open and Export dialogue box.

  • Select Export data to a File.
  • Comma as the file delimiter.
  • Click OK.

  • You’ll now be prompted to provide a file name and identify where you want to save the file. This can be placed anywhere on your computer, but we recommend you place it right on your desktop (or a location where you can find it later). You will need to save the file as a .txt file. Then you’ll click on Save.

Please Note: Make sure to remember where you’ve saved the file and what you’ve called it because you’ll need that information when you move on to the next step which is to upload your data to the PlanPlus Planit.

Step 3 – Upload Dataphile Export into PlanPlus Planit

The Upload Dataphile Export screen will allow you to upload your client file into the PlanPlus Planit. In order to import client data into Planit, you must first have performed the data export process from your Dataphile software first.

  • Once you log into Planit you will see the link to Upload Dataphile Export on the left side menu bar under “Selection”.

  • When the screen opens you will then need to locate the file which you exported form your Dataphile software. Please select the text-based file (wa.txt) that has your client account data by using the "Browse" button.

A choose file window will open and here you will browse to your file, once you have chosen your file, click "Open" on the window. This will bring you back to the Upload Dataphile Export screen showing you the path to your file. Simply hit "Upload”.

  • Once your file has been uploaded successfully you will be presented with a screen, you are now ready to import. Simply click the Import button.

Please Note: If you wish to cancel and return to the main menu, click the "Cancel" button however once you click the import button you will not have the option to cancel.

The first time you import a client you will be asked to assign client roots. To assign a root to a family member, select one or multiple roots from the "Unassigned Roots" group and select the "Assign" link to the left of the family member.

Once you have completed assigning the client roots then you can hit continue.

NOTE: Corporate accounts must be “Assigned” to either the “Client” or “Spouse”. Remember to uncheck the Primary Root Box for each Corporate Account as seen below before clicking continue.

Once you hit continue this will bring you to the home page of the PlanPlus Planit, and it will list the results of your import.
