Example Problem One:

You have recently spoken with a new set of clients: David and Debbie Lastname. You have not yet determined which financial planning services you will provide to these clients, but you have collected some basic information.

David is currently 40-years old, born January the 15th, and Debbie is 38-years old, born February the 3rd. They have one son, named Daniel, who is 8 years old (born on January 22) and one daughter, Alicia, age 6 (born on March 2). They have an inflation assumption of 3.0%.

Solution using the Personal Information Screen:

On the home page click on the Add Client link and enter all personal information as described below:

  1. Click the Add button in the top right of the screen twice to add fields for the children.
  2. Change the first “son” drop-down menu to “daughter.”
  3. Enter David, Debbie, Alicia, and Daniel into the first name fields of the Client, Spouse, Daughter, and Son columns, respectively.
  4. Enter Lastname into the two Last Name fields.
  5. For the client’s Date of Birth (DoB), enter (Current Year–40)-01-15 in the format YYYY-MM-DD
  6. For the spouse’s DoB enter (Current Year–38)-02-03 in the format YYYY-MM-DD
  7. For the daughter’s DoB enter (Current Year–6)-03-02 in the format YYYY-MM-DD
  8. For the son’s DoB enter (Current Year–8)-01-22 in the format YYYY-MM-DD
  9. The drop-down menus under the Gender column should be correct by default, correct them if they’re not.
  10. Click the Save button in the top right of the screen.
  11. Click the Address tab near the top left of the screen.
  1. Enter the Address, City, Postal Code, Phone, and Email fields however you want.
  2. Ensure the Country and Province fields are correct to your planning jurisdiction. If they’re not, correct them.
  3. Click the Save button in the top right of the screen.
  4. Click the right arrow button in the top right of the screen.
  1. If it’s not there already, enter 3.0% into the Inflation field.
  2. Ensure the Planning Jurisdiction and Planning Province drop-down menus are correct to your planning jurisdiction. If they’re not, correct them.
  3. Ignore the default Discount Rate and Risk-Free Rate fields.
  4. Ignore the default Allocation Method radio button.
  5. Click the Save button in the top right of the screen.
