Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments

Mr. Doug Melville is currently the Ombudsman and CEO for Banking Services and Investments in Canada. The mandate for the OBSI is the investigation and resolution of consumer complaints arising from Canada's banking sector.
Although this organization has no regulatory ability to enforce its findings, it does have the ability to make public its rulings in the event that an institution does not comply. Experience has been that banks to not want the publicity of issues and in all instances have complied with the findings. This is a lower cost avenue for Canadians to find redress for problems than legal action.
