NAIFA was founded in 1890 as the National Association of Life Underwriters. NAIFA was formed to protect and promote the role of insurance in a sound financial plan and the role provided by its professional agents and advisors.

NAIFA is made up of more than 700 associations that represent the interest of 200,000 members and their associates nationwide. NAIFA members practice life insurance and annuities, health insurance and employee benefits, multiline, and financial advising and investments.
